TradingView No Data on Windows — Why & Fixes

TradingView desktop showing "No data", "Symbol not found", delayed quotes, or a frozen chart? These 6 fixes cover the most common reasons live data fails on Windows — covering both technical issues and plan/data-feed gotchas.

What does "No data" mean in TradingView?

"No data" in TradingView can mean one of three distinct things, each with a different fix. (1) The symbol's exchange feed is not part of your plan — for example, US equity feeds are 15-minute delayed unless you connect a broker or buy real-time data add-ons; the chart shows the "No data" overlay until you upgrade. (2) The WebSocket connection has dropped — historical bars render but live updates freeze; the connection indicator in the bottom-right turns red. (3) The exchange's upstream feed is down or the symbol is invalid — affects only specific symbols while others continue updating. Status incidents are tracked at status.tradingview.com.

Diagnose the right way first

"No data" can mean three different things. Match yours before choosing a fix:

Fix 1: Check your plan covers this exchange

TradingView's free and lower-tier plans include real-time crypto, forex, and basic equity data from delayed feeds. They do NOT include:

Check what's included in your plan: tradingview.com/pricing.

Fix 2: Use the correct symbol prefix

If you see "Symbol not found", you may have the wrong exchange. Use prefixed symbols:

What you typedWhat you might want
BTCBINANCE:BTCUSDT or COINBASE:BTCUSD
AAPLNASDAQ:AAPL
SPYAMEX:SPY or NYSE:SPY
EURUSDFX:EURUSD or OANDA:EURUSD
ES (futures)CME_MINI:ES1!

Use Ctrl+F → type the company name (e.g., "Apple") to find the correct symbol with the right exchange.

Fix 3: Enable real-time data (remove 15-min delay)

Two paths to real-time US equity data:

  1. Connect a US broker (free, recommended). Click the broker icon in the TradingView toolbar → choose your broker (IBKR, TradeStation, Tradier, etc.) → log in. Real-time data follows the broker.
  2. Subscribe to exchange data. Profile → My Plan → Data → Add data feed. CBOE One ($2/mo) covers all US equities; specific exchange feeds available individually.

Crypto and forex are real-time by default with no broker required.

Fix 4: Reconnect WebSocket

If the chart's connection indicator (bottom-right corner of the chart) is red or shows "Disconnected":

  1. Press Ctrl + R to reload the chart.
  2. If that fails, quit the app fully (right-click taskbar → Close window) and relaunch.
  3. If that fails, check your internet — visit tradingview.com in your browser to confirm.
  4. Corporate or restrictive firewalls can block WebSocket connections specifically. Test from a personal hotspot — if it works there, your network is the issue.

Fix 5: Check TradingView's system status

TradingView's data feeds occasionally degrade. Check status before further debugging:

Fix 6: Disconnect/reconnect broker

If you have a broker connection providing real-time data and it stops:

  1. Click the broker icon in the toolbar.
  2. Disconnect.
  3. Wait 10 seconds.
  4. Reconnect, re-authenticate if prompted.

Broker sessions occasionally expire. The fix takes 30 seconds.

Common questions

Why does TradingView show 'No data' on my chart?

Symbol's exchange feed not in your plan, market closed, or account unauthorized for that data. Crypto and forex are real-time free; US equities are 15-min delayed unless broker-connected.

Why is my TradingView data delayed by 15 minutes?

Default US equity delay across all plan tiers. Connect a US broker (free) or subscribe to exchange data ($2–$25/mo retail) to remove it.

My TradingView chart is frozen — what do I do?

Check connection indicator bottom-right. If red, reload chart with Ctrl+R or restart app. If only some symbols freeze, the exchange's feed is the issue.

Does TradingView desktop need internet to show charts?

Yes. All chart data comes via WebSocket. No offline mode — saved layouts persist but no live data without connection.

Why do my crypto charts work but stocks don't?

Crypto is real-time by default. US equities need broker connection or paid exchange data subscription for real-time. Network is fine — enable real-time stocks.
